Talk:Libav Summer Of Code 2012
aacs discussion
for anyone interested in why i removed it as a proposal: http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel-irc/2012-February/000495.html
[01:08] <j-b> kierank: who spoke about aacs? [01:08] <Compn> aacs is on the libav gsoc page [01:08] <j-b> why? [01:08] <j-b> http://git.videolan.org/?p=libaacs.git;a=shortlog [01:08] <j-b> it works perfectly fine [01:09] <j-b> Compn: connect libaacs to ffmpeg? this is stupid. libbluray does that. [01:10] <Compn> j-b : well that aacs task was written a year or two ago ... just copied to new one [01:10] <j-b> this is totally stoopid [01:10] <Compn> feel free to delete it off gsoc page [01:11] <Compn> there isnt a mentor for it anyhow [01:11] <j-b> integration ffmpeg of libbluray is a 10hour task, at most [01:11] <j-b> and it gives you libaacs for free [01:11] <Compn> theres already a patch... [01:11] <j-b> it does not give bd+ [01:11] <Compn> i just didnt know how it all worked when i suggested it years ago [01:11] <j-b> which is _important_ [01:11] <kierank> libbluray in ffmpeg does make some sense [01:12] <Compn> ok removed from wiki [01:12] <Compn> everyone happy? :) [01:12] <Compn> i dont want to duplicate libaacs [01:13] <j-b> now, I would suggest libbdplus SoC

HEVC/H265 decoder
previous wavelet decoder SOC projects have failed multiple times. i think this is too difficult for students. also i believe its better to spend time on codecs that are actually used. --Compn 23:01, 4 March 2012 (EST)
Opus Decoder
is this used anywhere? i think rare use/samples is not a good candidate. think dirac.--Compn 23:01, 4 March 2012 (EST)
On2 VP7 decoder
skype has no way to record calls so the vp7 video is never found on users harddrive. also microsoft bought skype and i'm sure will torpedo it fast. --Compn 23:01, 4 March 2012 (EST)
RTMP[E|S|T|TE] protocol implementation
i do not understand why you want to duplicate librtmp. adobe already has "dynamic http streaming". i'm guessing they are switching to it and dropping this rtmp crap since flv has no encryption? --Compn 23:01, 4 March 2012 (EST)
spin off build system into a separate project
useful thing, but is it good task for SOC? --Compn 23:01, 4 March 2012 (EST)
generic build system
it would be a good idea to find a project that wants to switch to this build system. this would give a clearer goal, 'make generic build system and port project XXX to use it'. i think it would be a bad idea to make a big generic build system only to find that its missing some feature that everyone needs. there are autotool alternatives, maybe good for finding obstacles and required features: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/600274/alternatives-to-autoconf-and-autotools --Compn 22:23, 4 March 2012 (EST)
