Thanks. This is actually just a straight port of a series I was writing on my blog some months ago: http://multimedia.cx/eggs/category/codec-technology/video-codecs/ . I have several other articles under development (DCT, VQ, MC, SIMD, color spaces) and the Wiki should help speed those along.
