Format?

I understand it's missing in FFmpeg but why call VfW codec as "format"? --Kostya 01:06, 23 October 2007 (EDT)

I'm not sure I understand your question. Anyway, a codec is a format for audio/video data representation. If you want to differentiated a codec, e.g. H.264, from a container like MOV, then use the term container, format is much too generic. Saying that one type of format is a format and another type of format is not a format is silly. --DonDiego 04:01, 24 October 2007 (EDT)
