General Notes

  • went with the KDE4 environment, which is my first exposure to it
  • packaged with Flash standalone Player (9.0.124.0)
  • default media player is Kaffeine 0.8.6
  • default audio player is Amarok 1.4.9.1
  • comes with Real Player 10.0.9.809 / July 2007
  • halfway through the suite, I think that Real Player might have hijacked file associations after its first invocation due to a dedicated Real format
  • on pass 2, an archaic X UI dialog redirects me to SUSE's website with an enormous URL that has codec information encoded into it; this just tells me that Fluendo might be able to help me

audio CD total disaster I get a message dialog that lightly explains that there are 4 possible handlers for the new disc detected; can't figure out how to invoke any of them; second time I try, I'm quick enough with the message box to bring up the 4 handlers; I launch Amarok which gives a little yellow message in the status about not being able to import 12 tracks
