Sierra Entertainment (formerly known as Sierra On-Line) is a gaming company founded in 1980. They put out the King's Quest, Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry series.

Sierra is not the creator of the VMD format. VMD was developed and used by French company Coktel Vision (Gobli*ns fame) and when Sierra bought this company, it also adopted VMD as FMV format.
