Sierra Entertainment (formerly known as Sierra On-Line) is a gaming company founded in 1980. They put out the King's Quest, Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry series. Later whole company has been sold to VU Games and it's name currently used only for branding purposes.
Before that, Sierra acquired French company Coktel Vision, working on a VMD format that time. Thus, VMD has been used for vast majority of Sierra's adventure games and several Coktel's titles as well.
