PortAudio

PortAudio is a multimedia API designed to provide a portable, simple, high performance Audio I/O library. Closely related to portmusic and PortMixer, PortAudio is actively maintained and used in many applications including Audacity, a free, open-source audio editor; XO Wave, a CD mastering and post production digital audio workstation for Mac OS X and Linux; AudioMulch, a modular synthesis and composition environment, and many more. As of this writing, CoreAudio, ALSA, OSS, Jack, and several Windows APIs are well supported.
