The full name is Joint Technical Committee 001: Information Technology Standards (JTC1). This implies that there may have been plans to build more JTCs between ISO and IEC but this is the only one. As the full name indicates, this organization works on IT standards. These are some of the subcommittees (SC):

  • SC 23 "Digital Storage Media for information interchange"
  • SC 24 "Computer graphics, image processing and environmental data representation"
  • SC 29 "Coding of audio, picture, multimedia and hypermedia information"

SC 23 defines some standards concerning CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. SC24 defined some standards about graphic file formats like TIFF. SC 29 deals with JPEG and MPEG standards.
