The Real name is Joint Technical Committee 001: Information Technology Standards(JTC1) Maybe there was planed to build more JTCs between ISO and IEC but this is the only one. As the full name say here works to Standardization body together on IT Standards. For Multimedia the SubCommittees

• SC 23 "Digital Storage Media for information interchange"
• SC 24 "Computer graphics, image processing and environmental data representation"
• SC 29 "Coding of audio, picture, multimedia and hypermedia information"

importaned.

SC 23 defined some Standards about CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, SC24 made some Standards about grafic file formats like tiff and SC 29 made JPEG and MPEG standards.
