The International Telecommunication Union publishes, among other documents, the G (audio), H (video) and T (still image) series. Some of those recommendations are:
- G.711 - A-law/mu-law
- G.72x (various speech codecs)
- H.261
- H.263
- H.264
- T.81 aka JPEG
- T.87, ITU name for JPEG-LS
- T.800, ITU name for JPEG-2000
