Doodle files were used on the Atari ST. All Doodle files are 32000 bytes long and contain a raw uncompressed dump of the computer's video memory. Originally it was only used for high resolution (640x400) monochrome images, but third party software also allowed low resolution (320x200x16) and medium resolution (640x200x4) images to be saved as .doo files.

The Atari ST video memory is planar and stored like this:

Medium resolution has two planes and high resolution has one plane.
