The Digital Versatile Disc is an optical disc used to store digital data. Standard DVDs use these technologies:
- MPEG: transport, video, and audio codecs
- VOBsub: subtitle format
- Meridian Lossless Packing (MLP): used on DVD-audio discs
- DVD Content Scrambling System: used for region and navigation restriction on DVD video discs
- DVD Content Protection for Pre-recorded Media: used for encrypting DVD audio discs
