I'm sure I blogged about that somewhere. If you can find a good place for it on the Wiki, be my guest. --Multimedia Mike 12:20, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

What about a section for image formats?--Dcsmith77 22:47, 4 October 2006 (EDT)

No objection, if you would like to take point on this. --Multimedia Mike 12:14, 5 October 2006 (EDT)

Vandalism

how about locking the front page from vandals? or from users who arent 24 hrs or so old? Compn 22:20, 25 November 2006 (EST)

Sounds like a great idea-- I just need to sit down with the MediaWiki documentation long enough to figure out how to do it. --Multimedia Mike 10:31, 26 November 2006 (EST)
Hmm, I somehow managed to fumble a rollback. I have marked the Main Page as protected. Only SysOps can edit it now. This should put a lid on spamming DonDiego 16:31, 27 November 2006 (EST)

So we've just suffered another wave of (bot?) attacks... Maybe we should disallow account creation or something like that? I mean require people to send a mail to the sysops to get an account.--DonDiego 07:03, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

Hmm, how about mailback activation or 1 day delay ? --Merbanan 08:00, 11 April 2007 (EDT)
Good ideas, all. Believe me, I've been trying to figure something out since this started yesterday. But MediaWiki is so poorly documented and hard to configure for these things. I'll keep investigating. --Multimedia Mike 10:16, 11 April 2007 (EDT)
Mike, since you claim to have a bit of PHP knowledge, just go ahead and modify the page for account creation. Add two checkboxes "I am not a spammer" and "My heart is pure" that need to be checked for the account to be created. Worked like a charm thwarting bots for a phpbb forum I installed. --DonDiego 10:53, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

I found some literature on preventing access. They had tips on enforcing email registration but that didn't work. I resorted to disabling new user registrations for the time being. Maybe when I upgrade to MediaWiki 1.9, there will be more sophisticated measures available. --Multimedia Mike 12:52, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

if you need a captcha, this system seems like a good idea, it uses ocr books as captchas, so people spend time getting books digitized! http://recaptcha.net/learnmore.html Compn 16:27, 25 May 2007 (EDT)

Research And Reverse Engineering

Today this reads "[i]One goal of the MultimediaWiki is to open up the field of multimedia technology to a wider audience of multimedia "hackers". Should it really say "hackers"? Should it not say 'open source programmers/developers' instead? I mean the word hacker is often refered to in the press as a person who breaks into other people computers for illegal or malicious purposes. --Gamester17 11:00, 29 Mars 2007 (GMT+1)

I don't think anybody here cares about what the general public associates with the word hacker. For the target audience the meaning should be clear. Plus, I don't think we should give in to the hijacking of the term hacker from its orginal meaning. --DonDiego 07:36, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
I agree with Diego. The term stays. --Multimedia Mike 15:25, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Licence

What do you think about adding a link to the licence on each page? At the bottom of each page are 'Privacy policy', 'About MultimediaWiki', 'Disclaimers'. could we add 'All content is available under the GFDL' or perhaps just 'Licence' and a link to MultimediaWiki:Copyrights. The reason i suggest was i wanted to use some images from wikipedia, but i wasn't sure of the licence. In fact we can copy and paste anything from wikipedia, cuz the text is the same licence, but for images they are under various licences, but often too gfdl. --crybaby

Image Formats

I suggest adding Image Formats to the Main Page navigation menu. --Ivo Fri May 2 12:04:52 CEST 2008

Done. Thanks for your work in this area. --Multimedia Mike 10:31, 2 May 2008 (EDT)

audio twoccs

can you add audio twocc page to the main navigation? http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=TwoCC --Compn 14:54, 8 September 2010 (EDT)
