Microcosm is a QuickTime codec targeted at lossless encoding of 64BPP RGBA movies. This codec was designed as an editing format and doesn't seem to be used for media distribution. Digital Anarchy offers a demo version for Mac and Windows that watermarks the video data, but doesn't seem to have time expiration.
They also developed a freeware uncmpressed codec for 64BPP RGBA movies called None16.
Looks like this codec uses range coding, optional RLE and fixed or adaptive prediction — all operations are performed on bytes or shorts, depending on codec bitdepth.
